The Dover Discovery Centre serves as a key cultural and community facility in Dover, housing historical exhibits that tell the story of the town’s rich maritime and military heritage. IMI Fire Doors was contracted to install 170 doors during the building’s recent £7.5 million renovation project, with our work including 86 sets of fire doors throughout the facility. The project required careful coordination with other trades and strict adherence to demanding timescales while the building remained partially operational. Our installation work ensures this important community resource is protected by properly installed, compliant fire doors that safeguard both visitors and the building’s valuable historical collections. The Dover Discovery Centre project demonstrates our capability to deliver large-scale commercial fire door installations while maintaining the precision and compliance standards that public buildings demand.
Dover Castle stands as one of England’s most iconic medieval fortresses, overlooking the English Channel from its commanding position above the White Cliffs. This Grade I listed structure has guarded England’s shores since the 11th century and remains one of Kent’s most visited heritage landmarks. IMI Fire Doors provided specialist joinery and carpentry services within St. John’s Tower, one of the castle’s historic structures. Our work included installing five bespoke doors crafted to match the building’s period character, fitting semi-circular windows that respect the tower’s architectural integrity, replacing floor joists to modern structural standards, fitted new European oak floorboards, and a full refurbishment of the internal staircase. This project showcases our ability to work sensitively on heritage properties where modern installation techniques must be balanced with conservation requirements, helping protect this nationally significant monument for future generations.
